A sports injury is an acute or overuse injury that occurs while participating in some form of athletic activity. Overuse injuries are gradual conditions that occur when an athlete puts stress on bones, muscles, joints, or soft tissues for an excessive amount of time.
It is important for everyone to take care of their physical health. Many people do so by playing sports. Sports are a great way to learn about passion and teamwork while also staying in shape. At the same time, it is also possible that someone could suffer a sports injury. At Injury Health Center, we provide care to everyone in the Daytona, Lake Mary, and Orlando areas via a chiropractor who can treat sports injury concerns. Look at some of the common injuries we treat below.
Some of the most common sports injury examples that we see in our clinics include:
Knee injuries are common and can be serious. Some of the common knee injuries that we see include ligament sprains involving the ACL, LCL, MCL, or PCL. In addition, we also see muscle strains that involve the muscles above and below the knee.
Elbow injuries are relatively sport-specific. Some of the most common sports that lead to elbow injuries include baseball, tennis, and golf. These injuries could include generalized inflammation or a sprain of the UCL. We understand how to evaluate and treat these injuries.
Back injuries take two forms. First, we see a lot of back injuries that stem from overuse issues. This could relate to posture issues, moving the vertebrae out of place. Then, we see acute back injuries as well. This could include a herniated disc or a pinched nerve. We know how to treat these injuries.
Finally, we also see foot injuries in our office as well. One common example is called plantar fasciitis, which involves inflammation of the lining on the bottom of the foot. In addition, we also see foot issues that include toe injuries and stress fractures. We know how to handle foot concerns.
